02 Jun The Care Behind Every Podiatry Appointment:
The Care Behind Every Podiatry Appointment: From sterilisation and infection control to foot health assessments.

When most people think about a skin and nail appointment, they think about how their feet will look when they leave.
Smoother skin. Neater nails. Feet that feel refreshed.
What many people don’t see is everything that happens behind the scenes to make that possible.
At The Foot Studio, every skin and nail appointment is built on a foundation of safety, education, infection control and preventative health care. While we want your feet to look and feel great, our primary focus is always your long-term foot health.
It Starts Before You Arrive
Long before you walk through the door, there is a lot happening behind the scenes.
Every reusable instrument undergoes a strict cleaning, sterilisation and reprocessing procedure. Instruments are cleaned, inspected, packaged and sterilised before being stored according to current standards.
These processes are designed to minimise risk and ensure every client receives care in a safe and professional environment.
Recently, our team completed a comprehensive review of our instrument reprocessing procedures to ensure we continue to meet the highest standards across both our podiatry services and The Nail Hub.

Every Podiatry Appointment Includes a Health Assessment
While many people attend because they want help with hard skin, thickened nails or general foot care, a podiatry skin and nail appointment is also an opportunity to assess your foot health.
Depending on your needs, we may assess:
• Skin condition and hydration
• Nail health and growth patterns
• Circulation and vascular health – we can use a doppler ultrasound or toe pressure to do this!
• Sensation and nerve function
• Pressure areas and callus formation
• Footwear wear patterns
• Early signs of skin or nail conditions
Sometimes small changes in the feet can be early indicators of larger health concerns.
Prevention Is Better Than Treatment
One of the biggest differences between podiatry-led skin and nail care and simply addressing cosmetic concerns is the focus on prevention.
Many foot problems develop slowly over months or years.
By identifying issues early, we can often help people avoid discomfort, infections, ingrown nails, skin breakdown and other complications before they become significant problems.
Our goal is not just to improve how your feet look today, but to help keep them healthy for years to come.
More Than Just Feet
Healthy feet help people stay active, connected and engaged with the things they love.
Whether that’s walking the dog, playing with grandchildren, running a marathon, exploring a hiking trail or simply enjoying a pain-free day, foot health plays an important role.
We believe movement is one of the most powerful contributors to health and wellbeing, and healthy feet are often the foundation that makes movement possible.
The nail Hub – a place to relax and get pampered.
The Nail Hub was designed by podiatrists for people who simply want to relax and enjoy a beautiful manicure or pedicure in a safe environment. Please note that manicures and pedicures are done by our Nail Therapist and do not treat any specific conditions. If there are any concerns identified our Nail Therapists will refer to our Podiatry team for review.
For many people, The Nail Hub is the perfect place to unwind, enjoy a coffee and leave feeling refreshed, knowing their care has been designed by foot health professionals.
For those needing help with more complex concerns, our podiatrists are here to help.
This may include:
• Corns and calluses
• Ingrown toenails
• Thickened or damaged nails
• Skin conditions affecting the feet
• Chronic wounds
• New wounds and skin injuries
• Diabetic foot care
• Ongoing foot health concerns
Our goal is to ensure everyone can access the level of care that is right for them, whether that’s a relaxing treatment, professional foot care or a combination of both.
Summer Feet Are Made in Winter
Winter is one of the best times to invest in your skin and nail health.
Addressing dry skin, cracked heels, thickened nails and other concerns now gives you plenty of time to build healthy habits before sandals and summer adventures return.
The next time you sit back and enjoy a skin and nail appointment, remember there is a lot happening behind the scenes that you never see.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
Because when the systems, training, sterilisation, assessments and care are working well, all you need to do is relax and enjoy the experience.
From all of us at The Foot Studio, thank you for trusting us with your foot health.
